Water reservoir Veľké Kozmálovce is built in the lower part of Hron river near the village of Veľké Kozmálovce. Water reservoir provides cooling water for nuclear power plant in Mochovce. On the dam is built a small hydroelectric power plant and reservoir provides water for irrigation in agriculture, industry, fishing and recreation. Enormous siltation of very fine-grained sediment reduces its capacity and has a negative impact on the quality of water. Cooling water containing fine sediment has negative influence on the cooling water pumps and cooling system for nuclear reactors. The main objective of this project was to eliminate the negative effects of sedimentation especially near pumps facilities and nuclear power inlet to the small hydropower plant. Sediments have been dredged by suction dredger and by floating pipeline transported to the processing facility plant DESET PG-01. Material greater than 3 mm was separated on vibrating screen. After homogenization of the remaining fine-grained material, polymer was added. For drainage sediments was used decanter centrifuge. Dry, dewatered sediment immediately was loaded onto trucks and dumped on convenient re-use. Excellent insulation properties of the sediment (high filtration coefficient) predestined it for using as building insulation material for dumps and part of the sediment was used for the construction of anti-flood barriers.
